Roger’s Tower
Almost wherever you are around here, look up and you can see this ancient keep on a hilltop - it's great for orientation like the post office tower was in London when I first moved there. It's always had a romantic fascination for us - Roger's Tower - some medieval aristos' huntin' lodge or something, scene of elicit trysts, I don't know.
Well today we climbed the hill to find it. And it's so dinky - our little cottage is taller - some 18th century folly, some rich grown-ups' wendy house.
The amazing thing is that it's made of the stones from a real iron age hill fort, Castle-an-Dinas. A wonderfully cute little sand castle.
